IND vs WI | ‘Little bit of miscalculation on my part’: John Campbell on his dismissal after trying to reverse sweep Ravindra Jadeja

Campbell and Shai Hope both smashed centuries which the player said will give immense confidence to the West Indies after poor showings with the bat in the 1st Test as well as their 1st innings of the second test.

West Indies batter John Campbell, one of the main architects of the Windies fight back after India enforced follow on, said that he shouldn’t have gone for the reverse sweep against Ravindra Jadeja, a decision that ultimately cost him his wicket. The batter who was batting at 115 said that it was a miscalculation on his part on attempting the shot.

“At that time I just thought the shot was on, just a little bit of miscalculation on my part. I am disappointed. I never want to get out, but that’s the nature of sport. Shai and me, we just wanted to bat as long as possible, that was always the plan. We both got started, so we wanted to take it as deep as possible,” he said after the day’s play on Monday.

Campbell and Shai Hope both smashed centuries which the player said will give immense confidence to the West Indies after poor showings with the bat in the 1st Test as well as their 1st innings of the second test.

“It’s a big positive for us, having not gotten the best first innings, we came out in the second innings and batted over 100 overs (118.5 overs), so that’s a big plus for us,” he said.

In the first innings, Campbell had a freak dismissal when he tried a slog sweep only to find Sai Sudharsan at forward short-leg. What makes it even more interesting was that Sudharsan wasn’t even trying to catch the ball and was ducking for covers when the ball came right at him and he managed to hold on to it by reflex.

“That was a freak of a catch. Honestly, I couldn’t have done anything different. I am just thankful I could come back in the second innings and make a big contribution for the team,” Campbell said in the post-match chat in Delhi.
