(Reuters)Shubman Gill and James Anderson exchanged some words in the middle on the second day of the 5th Test the contents of which the Indian batter declined to share with the broadcasters in an interview at day’s end. However, on Tuesday, Anderson opened up about the exchange on BBC’s Tailenders podcast.
Anderson who took his 700th Test wicket in the match, made Gill his 699th victim when he dismissed the batter for 110. “I said something to him like, ‘Do you get any runs outside India?’ and he said, ‘It’s time to retire. Then two balls later, I got him out,” the England veteran revealed.
Anderson joined the 700-club when he dismissed India’s Kuldeep Yadav on Saturday at Dharamshala. The England veteran achieved the feat in his 187th test and is the first pace bowler to reach the milestone.
Anderson also said in the podcast that Kuldeep had predicted that he would be the 700th scalp of the England bowler.
“Kuldeep edged one down to third man for a single and as he got to the non-striker’s end and as I was walking back to my mark, he said, ‘I’m going to be your 700th wicket. He wasn’t saying he was trying to get out, he was just saying he had a feeling. We both laughed at it,” the 41-year-old said.
On Day 3, Gill also had a tiff with Jonny Bairstow as well with the England batter saying, “What did you said to Jimmy, that you are retiring? Then he get you out the next ball.”
Gill responded: “So what? He can get me out after my hundred. What you have done in this series?”
To which Bairstow replied: “How many have scored full-stop.”
Sarfaraz Khan patrolling at the short leg played the role of peacemaker and chips in “Jonny bhai, easy, Jonny bhai easy.”
Then Sarfaraz asked wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel to keep Shubman Gill grounded, “Chup rehne bol usko, jara sa run kya bana liya series mein uchal raha hai (Ask him to calm down. He has scored a few runs in the series and he is getting excited).
