RR vs GT Highlights: Rajasthan Royals beat GT by 8 wickets after Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes 35-ball century

There you go! The Rajasthan Royals have managed to chase down the target of 210 with eight wickets in hand and 25 balls remaining.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a 40-ball unbeaten 70 but was completely overshadowed by the exploits of his opening partner, the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi who smashed a 38-ball 101 (7x4, 11x6, SR: 265.78).

Right on the heels of Vaibhav Suryavanshi's departure for 101 runs, Nitish Rana is sent back for just four runs by Rashid Khan. He reviews it, but to no avail. 

RR captain Riyan Parag is out in the middle now, hoping to guide the chase home with set batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.

A special delivery to end a special innings. The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is once again close to tears as he walks back to the hut after smashing the second fastest century in the history of the league (and the fastest half century in IPL history). 

He is congratulated by most of the Gujarat Titans players as he walks off. And we have the RR team on their feet in the dugout. But Suryavanshi looks unhappy as he walks off!

If Ishant Sharma was plundered for 28 runs in one over earlier, Afghanistan's Karim Janat is hit for 30 runs in his first over in the IPL.  

And right afterwards, the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets to his century off just 35 balls to help Rajasthan Royals reach 155 runs in 11 overs as they chased a target of 210 runs against the Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2025 clash on Monday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Suryavanshi's century was the second fastest in IPL history, after Chris Gayle's 30-ball 100 in 2013.

He has already smashed a 17-ball 50. Suryavanshi's half century was the fastest of the IPL 2025. In fact, at the age of 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi is the youngest half centurion in IPL history, edging stand in Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag by more than three years and regular RR skipper Sanju Samson by over four years.  

It was the sort of innings that completely overshadowed Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a 31-ball 50. 

The Rajasthan Royals had two slow overs — 6th and 7th — right after 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a 17-ball 50, fastest of the ongoing Indian Premier League season. But now things are back to normal! 

17 runs come off the 8th over from Prasidh Krishna, who had given away six runs in his first over. His figures go from 1-0-6-0 to 2-0-23-0.

So after the Royals scored 81/0 in five overs, the next two overs -- by Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan -- see a slowdown in RR's batting run rate. 

Just six runs in Prasidh Krishna's first over and then stand-in skipper Rashid is even more parsimonious, giving away four runs! 

Krishna is obviously a Purple Cap contender this season, but this is great news for Rashid who has been struggling all season!

At the age of 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi is the youngest half centurion in IPL history, edging stand in Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag (who was 17 years and 175 days old when he scored his first 50 in 2019) by more than three years and regular RR skipper Sanju Samson (who was 18 years and 169 days old when he scored his first 50 in 2013) by over four years.

Jaiswal throwing the kitchen sink at Siraj’s bowling in that third over. Third, fourth and sixth balls being sent to the boundary ropes. One being hit over the mid off fielder’s head, another past the long-on boundary and then one more at deep midwicket boundary. 

Jaiswal is on 21 runs off 11 balls.13 runs coming off that over!  

Jaiswal gets a second life after Jos Buttler drops him early in the second over. A very reckless shot from jaiswal there who edged it and the ball went flying into the air. Buttler ran 21 metres calling away for his teammates to leave the ball be. Tewatia was at an arm's length, so were a couple of others. All of them let it go because Buttler was so persistent in his calling. And Buttler can only get his fingertips to the ball. It's an open air stadium so that makes the ball swirl. 

All Ishant Sharma can do is have a wry smile to himself while he is walking away back to his starting mark. 

And just when it seems like it's still going to be a good over after just two runs off five balls, Jaiswal hit a 93-metre maximum ion the last ball. That ball, was right in the slot, and fell on the roof in the stands. WHAT A SHOT! 

Both these batters have been dropped once at least, and are playing without a care in the world.

Siraj handed the ball for GT for the first over. And after a first ball single from Jaiswal, Siraj bowls two wides to 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. And then, the teen gets a good ball that he absolutely tonks over Siraj's head for a maximum! WHAT A SHOT!

A stat about Jos Buttler: the England batter has been unbeaten in his last three innings for GT. 

unbeaten 97 off 54 against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad, unbeaten 41 off 23 vs KKR at Kolkata and then 50 not out against RR today. 

Gujarat Titans have subbed captain Shubman Gill with Ishant Sharma coming in as a the Impact Sub. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan (And not Jos Buttler) is named as the stand-in captain.

"Great performance. The two guys at the top have been outstanding, setting great platforms. We've got a good score on the board. Really good wicket. Obviously the bounce is a little lower here in Jaipur, but lots of value with the fast outfield. Will have to bowl well. I asked him what he thought a good score was, he said 190-plus. We're a bit above but if the dew comes, it might skid on. I'm always expecting a few bouncers from Jofra. I'm sure he'll repay me sometime in the nets. From day one, watching him in the nets, I was blown away by how good he was. He's got a really good head on his shoulders to go with the talent," says Archer. 

So Jos Buttler manages to score his 50 on the final ball of the innings. And Buttler is given the chance to hand Sai Sudharsan the Orange Cap in the mid-innings break. 

"Knows the fort, not breaking it," runs the accusatory message on the digital signboard at the stadium about former RR player Buttler. 

Rajasthan Royals need to chase 210 runs to stave off an end to their IPL playoff hopes. 

Tewatia's stint in the middle comes to an end as he tries to flick the ball behind square leg and misses. The ball hits the pads, and it's out. They review, but it's not successful.

WHAT A SHOT 

Washington Sundar's short stint in the middle is over. He departs for 13 runs off eight balls and has holed out in the deep. The catcher is Hetmyer, who came running in from deep cover. At some point three RR fielders were chasing the ball with Yudhvir having to evade bumping into Hetmyer. Hetmyer had dropped an easy catch of Sai Sudharsan earlier. Now, he makes no mistake and claims the ball with a full length dive.

Jofra Archer back into the attack after Shubman Gill departs. And Archer is hit for two sixes as a welcome back — Buttler dispatching the second ball over the long-on boundary ropes and then Washington Sundar hitting the fourth ball for a maximum over fine leg.

And then there’s also a four in that over as 19 runs come off that over for Gujarat Titans.

Theekshana is handed the 17th over. And maybe after watching the fate of his Sri Lankan compatriot, Hasaranga who was tonked for 24 runs a little while back, he starts off with two wides. Then, on the first legal ball, Shubman Gill slaps the ball for a boundary. The GT captain looks set to score a century here. BUT WAIT! On the fourth ball, Shubman Gill hands Riyan Parag on long off an easy catch! Just did not get the elevation he was looking for.

Dot ball on the first ball. One run off the sixth ball of that 15th over of the innings bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga. 

And then Buttler cuts loose in four balls in the middle: six over deep square on ball 2, six over the bowler's head on ball 3, four on ball 4 through deep square leg and a six over deep midwicket on ball 5. 24 runs coming off that 15th over!

Hasaranga’s figures coming into his final over read 3-0-15-0. He ends the innings with figures reading 4-0-39-0.

Shubman Gill has been playing in second gear so far in this match. 

And we’re now starting to see him cutting loose as he enters the 70s. On the third ball of Yudhvir Singh Charak’s third over, the ball comes on his pads, and Shubhan absolutely tonks it into the first tier. Three balls later, Charak’s pace makes the ball sit up nicely for Shubman to slap another maximum. This time, the ball crosses the ropes for a 73m six. 15 runs coming in there in that over! 

Jos Buttler, meanwhile, is still getting his eye in. He’s scored 7 runs off 9 balls.

Despite the loss of Sai Sudharsan in the previous over, Gujarat Titans are flying here. They enter the three-figure mark with a six from Shubman Gill who punishes a full toss from Sandeep. 10 runs come off the over.

After 12 overs, Gujarat Titans are 107/1

Theekshana gets Rajasthan Royals a breakthrough after the Gujarat Titans piled on 93 runs. And the breakthrough comes right after Gill crosses his half century and Sai takes the Orange Cap.

He departed while tried to heave the ball for a big one, but could not get under the ball and ended up giving an easy catch at long on for the RR captain.

Yudhvir Singh Charak, who was taken off after giving away 10 runs in his first over, is brought back on. And he starts his second spell by straying on the pads of Shubman Gill, who gets a feather edge and sends it to the ropes. Charak ends the over by conceding a maximum, this time it’s Sai Sudharsan who pulls the ball over deep midwicket. Just fractionally short. But punished! 

Meanwhile, another stat about how effective Sai Sudharsan has been in IPL since IPL 2024: he’s had the most 30+ scores in the league, scoring over 30 in 18 of his 21 innings. Sai Sudharsan also takes the Orange Cap.  

13 runs coming off that over! 

Another wicketless over for the Rajasthan franchise as they hand the ball to Hasaranga, hoping for some stroke of luck. 

But there is none on the horizon. The GT opening duo is content to run singles off every ball barring a two-run last ball. You get the sense the pyrotechnics are coming. Anytime now.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have now put together 500 runs as a pair in IPL 2025. This puts them almost 50 runs ahead of the second placed pairing of Kohli and Paddikal.  

After watching six wicketless overs, Riyan Parag opts to try and do the job of breaking the partnership himself. And he is tonked for 14 runs. This includes a heave over deep midwicket for a maximum on the third ball and then a chance for a catch which the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi spilled in the deep. It’s harsh to call that a drop, the teen did everything he could to catch that. But it was too difficult. 

Gujarat Titans end the powerplay with the scoreboard reading 53/0. Just when it looked like Sandeep was faring much better than his teammates — giving away just three runs in his first three balls — he started to lose the plot on his lines. He strayed on Shubman Gill’s pads on the fourth ball, which was dispatched to the ropes and only a great effort on the ropes by Hetmeyer prevents more than two runs. The next ball is a wide. Two balls later, another ball on Sai’s pads. 

Another over gone, no wicket yet for Rajasthan Royals.

Another over gone, no wicket. And once again almost 10 runs coming off it. 

Both batters have raced away into the 20s now. Theekshana, meanwhile, has given away 20 runs in two overs 

And Archer is off the attack again as Sandeep is handed the ball by Riyan Parag. The body language of all the Rajasthan Royals players in the field starting to sag. And we’re just in the fifth over.

A glorious drive from Shubman Gill in that over! Archer strays with his length on the third ball and Gill punches the ball past him. Two balls later, it’s Sai Sudharsan who thumps the ball to the ropes. 

An insane fact on Sai Sudharsan on the broadcast: he is playing in his 34th innings in the IPL. Only twice has he been dismissed in single digits.

11 runs from that over. The change of ends for Jofra Archer clearly not yielding too much for RR.

Very interesting tactics from RR here who has handed Yudhvir the third over instead of continuing with Jofra Archer. And Shubman Gill doesn’t mind at all. He clubs two boundaries on the final two balls to end the over with 10 runs for his team. 

The first four disappeared at midwicket. The second one was tonked over mid on.

Jofra Archer is handed the next over. So RR just wanted a change of ends for their pace spearhead. 

Theekshana is handed the second over by Rajasthan and on the fourth ball, he is driven to the boundary by Sai Sudharsan. A nice ball right under the bat, asking to be driven through the covers. And Sai Sudharsan, chasing the Orange Cap, obliges. 

And right on the next ball, Hetmeyer drops the easiest catch  of Sai Sudharsan for nine runs. At chest height. No real power behind it. No running needed to catch it. And still, out it goes from the palm of the fielder.

Archer gets an edge from Sai Sudharsan on the first ball, but the ball flies harmlessly away from any fielder. Both Titans batters are content to nudge the ball around or leave it alone as they negotiate Jofra Archer’s first over without any blood spilt. 

But on the final ball, Archer strays on the pads and Sai Sudharsan flicks the ball to the boundary. 

An instructive stat: in the first three overs, GT have a run rate of 7.2 which is the 9th best among the 10 teams this season. The real acceleration happens in the 3-6 over phase, where they have averaged a run rate of 11.1 runs. (3rd among 10 teams)

Jofra Archer handed the ball by Rajasthan Royals. Gujarat Titans have sent out Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan -- an opening pair that has put on 448 partnership runs in 8 innings at an average of 56 and run rate of nearly 9 an over -- to open the innings.

Rajasthan Royals' woes while chasing have been well documented this season. As Vinayakk Mohanarangan noted in his report: 'Nine runs needed from six balls. That was the equation for the Rajasthan Royals in their last two matches. At Kotla, a few days ago, they came undone by Mitch Starc's fine last over, albeit still managing to force a Super Over and losing in the tiebreaker. In Jaipur on Saturday, they come undone even worse. Chasing 181, RR fell short by 2 runs against Lucknow Super Giants to suffer their sixth defeat of the season and remain rooted to the bottom half of the table.' 

So why, you wonder, has Riyan Parag chosen to chase once again?

Former India player Sanjay Bangar believes that Rajasthan Royals need to consider giving pace spearhead Jofra Archer three -- or even all four of his quota -- overs at the top of the innings at a stretch. 

The kind of bite that Archer has produced with the ball, he can do some damage at the top. But what happens after he's done?

We're awaiting the toss from the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for a game that has serious consequences on both ends of the table.

RR could be eliminated with a defeat. 

GT could top the IPL 2025 standings with a win here. 

Stand-in captain for the Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag, has had a woeful run of results with the bat this season. What's particularly telling about his scores this season is that in nine innings, he has gotten at least 20 runs in seven innings. But not once has he managed to convert that into a half century.

Jos Buttler, who was a regular fixture in the Rajasthan Royals playing XIs for the past few seasons, has settled well at the Gujarat Titans. Recently, talking about the transition from RR to GT, Buttler told JioHotstar, "Playing for Gujarat Titans feels different after spending so many seasons with Rajasthan Royals and creating great memories. But I'm excited for something new—it keeps things fresh and interesting. The setup here is very relaxed and chilled. I've enjoyed getting to know Ashish Nehra, who runs a fun, positive environment, and Shubman Gill, who is a very impressive, calm young captain."

If you take a look at Rajasthan Royals' runs rates, it tells you a lot about where the team has gone awry. 

In the powerplay overs, they average a run rate of 10.4 runs, which marks them as the team with the best run rate in powerplay overs. 

In Overs 7-16, their run-rate dips to 8.3 runs which is the 8th best among the 10 teams. 

In the death overs of 17-16, RR's run-rate rises to 10.2 runs which is the 9th best among the 10 teams this season. 

So the inaugural winners of the IPL start great, and then lose the plot 

Recently deposed from the top spot of the IPL 2025 standings by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans can retake the top spot today with a win. The team standing in their way, Rajasthan Royals, have been struggling all through this season. Gujarat have 12 points from 8 games, which means that they have played two games less than RCB and trail the Bengaluru team by just two points. 

The Rajasthan Royals are meanwhile ninth the standings with four points having won just two out of their nine games in IPL 2025. A loss today, will see RR get eliminated.

Jos Buttler returns to the Pink City, albeit in the visitors' colours. The Buttler discard by RR might arguably be the most debated player release ahead of the IPL 2025 season, especially when he was one of the key overseas performers for the side over the last two cycles in the league. Buttler's rapport with skipper Sanju Samson was of immense value to the side until the Royals decided to part ways with the Englishman.

Buttler, however, recounted his relationship with the Royals captain in a recent video shared by the broadcasters.  “I’ve had a great relationship with Sanju over the years, learning a lot from him and watching how he goes about things. While time moves on and I’m now with a new franchise, I’ll always look back fondly at the friendships and memories we built — they’ll stand the test of time.”

Watch out for the speed guns tonight as Jofra Archer, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj will be up with the Kookaburra in Jaipur. While Archer has scaled the 150 kph mark multiple times, Prasidh remains the only bowler to touch the speeds among Indian bowlers.

Prasidh Krishna might arguably be the surprise performer of the season thus far. He's atop the wicket-taking charts with 16 scalps and has adeptly shifted from a Powerplay operator to a middle-overs lieutenant with drastic changes in length. However, Prasidh's cracking seed to dismiss KL Rahul lbw in Ahmedabad within the Powerplay in a recent outing exhibited the variety in his arsenal. A partly three-finger release yorker angled in before moving just away while landing on Rahul's toe.

Prasidh called it the favourite wicket thus far this season.

"I would say KL Rahul's wicket was my favourite because I was kind of under pressure, the ball was going all over the place, and I had to nail that ball there and lucky that the ball swung very late and got somebody like KL Rahul and that wicket was really important to break the momentum that they had so I would say KL's wicket is my favourite so far," he said in the JioStar Press Room.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been instrumental in the Rajasthan's Powerplay force this season. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer inside the first six overs, having amassed 213 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 161.36 and an average of 53.25.

In his last six outings, Jaiswal has notched up four half-centuries. Furthermore, Jaiswal has been particularly effective in home conditions at Jaipur, where he has scored two half-centuries in as many games, accumulating 149 runs.

Rajasthan Royals have strangely topped the batting charts in the Powerplay this season. It is interesting that the Royals haven't been able to capitalise on such starts, given the recent of string of results where their finishing has been of concern in chases.

The pitch in Jaipur has always been conducive for spinners. The longer dimensions of this ground also make it to go after the bowlers who take the pace of the deliveries. Hence, ideally, winning the toss and batting first would be to the advantage of teams. However, the catch is not to overattack in the first innings and look for a total that is not possible.

According to the Accuweather app, the temperature on the day in Jaipur on Monday could go as his as 40 degrees Celsius. However, in the evening it will be around 27 degrees Celsius, which is kinder for playing cricket.

From the time they came into the IPL fold, Gujarat Titans have been largely unpredictable. From looking at Hardik Pandya to captain the side to making him bat at No 4 and bringing on Mohit Sharma out of nowhere, they have done it all. Yet this season, on the back of having a batting unit that is sans a reliable middle-order batsman, there was this pertinent question as to how they will overcome their over reliance on the top-order which in itself comes with its own caveats.

In captain Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan, they have a pair of openers, who are not explosive.
