Virat Kohli on Saturday became the first Indian batsman to score three consecutive ODI centuries. Kohli reached the landmark in Pune during India’s third ODI against West Indies. This is his 38th ODI century and it came off 111 balls. He had smashed one six and 10 fours on his way to the three-figure mark.

Kohli came into the middle after Rohit Sharma was dismissed off the last ball of the second over. Shikhar Dhawan then stuck with the Indian captain as they went on to sculpt a 79-run stand. Dhawan then departed after he tried to get a boundary which had dried up at that point. Ambati Rayudu then joined Kohli in the middle and the pair chipped away at the spinners. The partnership was broken three runs before it reached the 50-run mark with Rayudu falling as soon as West Indies brought back pace.

He then made 37 for the fourth wicket with Rishabh Pant who had to depart after nicking it to the wicketkeeper. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was on the other side when Kohli reached his century. He went on to be dismissed by Marlon Samuels after having made 107 runs. His wicket sounded the death knell to the tottering Indian innings and the hosts were all out for 240.

Kohli scored 140 in the first ODI of the series and then followed that up with a majestic unbeaten 157. It was in the latter that he became the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 ODI runs, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record by more than 50 innings.
