IND vs SA 1st ODI Ranchi JSCA Stadium Pitch Report: India take on South Africa in Ranchi. (PTI)IND vs SA 1st ODI JSCA Stadium Pitch Report: After a drubbing at the hands of South Africa in the recently-concluded Test series where they lost 2-0, India will now focus their attention on the white ball formats. The limited overs series starts with the first ODI in Ranchi with the hosts looking for a strong beginning.
The team will be led by KL Rahul in the place of regular skipper Shubman Gill who was ruled out of the ODI series. Gill had to miss the 2nd Test in Guwahati as well after getting injured in the first Test in Kolkata. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will also miss out on this series after suffering an injury in the Australia series. The Indian team, however, will get a huge boost with the return of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, set to play their first ODI series after Australia. With both having retired from Test and T20Is, doing well in the ODI series will be their focus with the 2027 ODI World Cup firmly in their sights.
The JSCA Stadium in Ranchi offers almost a perfect balance between batters and bowlers, tilting a little bit towards the batsmen’s favour. It’s a surface that offers decent bounce and carry which will help the pacers while the spinners will be able to come into the match as it progresses. Under the lights, spinners will get help with the pitch offering plenty of grip and turn but the chasing batters might make merry if the dew sets in during night time.
As is true for a lot of parts in India, the air quality of Ranch is expected to be pretty poor with temperatures at 22° in the morning, according to Accuweather. The temperature rises to 23° during the afternoon, which is the time of the match with a 93% cloud cover predicted. It gets chillier in the evening with the temperature plummeting to 15° and drops further down to 13° at night.
