India vs New Zealand Highlights, U19 World Cup 2024: Musheer Khan blitzes hundred, Saumy Pandey snaps four wickets as IND beat NZ by 214 runs

Musheer Khan to Ewald Schreuder, who goes for glory, but misses the length and has a mess made of his stumps. How fitting that he gets the last wicket.

India beat New Zealand by 214 runs, their third 200 plus run win in the competition and it's been a total decimation of the Kiwis. A strong start from the defending champions to their Super 6 campaign. No reason why they won't go all the distance this time as well.

Ryan Tsourgas is the latest victim. Runs too far down the track, is beaten by the line and gets stumped. A fourth wicket for Saumy Pandey, who has been sensational right from the start. Finishes his quota with 10-2-19-4. New Zealand, 76/9 after 27 overs.

It was only a matter of time before Arshin Kulkarni got a wicket of his own. Alex Thomson, in an attempt to have a go at a wide outside off stump delivery is caught behind by keeper Aravelly Avanish. Just the faintest of the nicks but that does it for India. 75/8 after 26 overs. 

This has been painful to watch, right from the start of this innings. Two wickets in that first over from Raj Limbani pretty much sealed the deal in India's favor on a tough wicket. But the defending champions have only gotten better as this game has progressed. Arshin Kulkarni manages to keep it down to just the two runs followed by a maiden over from Saumy Pandey, who's been the pick of the bowlers with three wickets so far. 

At the halfway stage, New Zealand are 71/7.

Alex Thomson breaks the boundary drought of over 60 deliveries with a lovely swivel-pull over mid wicket for four. In the next over, Saumy Pandey is swept by Zac Cumming through backward square leg for four. But just as New Zealand look to take the attack to the Indians, they've lost a wicket. As they do on this occasion. 

Pandey brought back into the attack and the left-arm spinner slows one down to trap Zac Cumming lbw. After 23 overs, NZ are 69/7.

Musheer Khan continues from the other end. He's picked a wicket and can sense another one coming as he calls for more quickness on the field off his fellow teammates. The Indians haven't given an iota of an opportunity to New Zealand to flick the switch. 59/6 after 21 overs.

Arshin Kulkarni replaces Naman Tiwari. A good start to his spell on a day the Indian bowlers have enjoyed bowling. Just the one run comes from the over. After 20, New Zealand are 57/6.

Naman Tiwari keeps it tight at one end, putting further pressure of the required run rate over the Kiwi heads and it pays off in the next over. 

Oscar Jackson is yorked by the left arm spinner from around the wicket and a pall of gloom casts over the New Zealand dressing room. The skipper, who had been keeping the game hanging by a thread, is gone. 56/6 after 19 overs. 

After a superb century with the bat - his second of this World Cup - Musheer Khan is introduced from the Loch Logan end with the ball. Meanwhile 50 up for New Zealand. 51/5 after 17 overs.

Naman Tiwari continues from the other end, catering to a short of a length delivery. For much of the innings so far, New Zealand have looked like avoiding the inevitable - dragging out the game for as long as they can. Pace on the ball, with no seam movement on offer,  presents the best opportunity to do so. Might be time for India to bring spin from both ends? Drinks for thought as the players take a break with 45/5 reading on the scoreboard.

Naman Tiwari bowls another miserly over but it is the other end where New Zealand have found themselves most vulnerable.

Their shortcomings against a sound spin attack were exposed when they faced Afghanistan, India have only confirmed the same. Saumy Pandey comes agonisingly close to taking another wicket. Zac Cumming's front foot defence induces an outside edge that's dropped at first slip. 42/5 after 15 overs.

Skipper Oscar Jackson has been the sole ray of sunshine in this Kiwi innings so far. Even in last over, he'd creamed a lovely cover drive off Naman Tiwari. As Saumy Pandey returns to bowl from the other end though, Jackson has looked jittery and is surviving from the skin of his teeth as two stumping attempts are deemed in favor of the Kiwis. He's got to be careful here to avoid a rout. New Zealand, 39/5 after 13 overs.

First change in the bowling for India as Naman Tiwari replaces Saumy Pandey and the left-armer strikes in his first over!

Coming from over the wicket, cleans up Oliver Tewatiya and half of the Kiwi side are back in the hut.

Raj Limbani into his sixth over!

Oliver Tewatiya finds his first boundary of the game. Full and wide outside the off stump from Limbani and Tewatiya meets it with a crisp drive through cover. 31/4 after 11 overs.

New Zealand are just looking to get through this phase. Pandey's fifth over costs just the one run and brings to an end a woeful powerplay for the Kiwis. 27/4 after 10 overs.

Raj Limbani to bowl his fifth over on a trot. India have picked apart New Zealand with a swing-spin combination with the new ball to full perfection. Limbani hasn't been among their leading wicket takers but has stepped up today. Three runs off his latest over, 26/4 after nine overs.

New Zealand sink further in the swamp as Saumy Pandey traps James Nelson lbw. On naked eye it didn't look conclusive - almost sliding down the leg - but the umpire reckons it had straightened enough for a fourth New Zealand wicket.

And India almost had a fifth as Oliver Tewatiya is nearly caught at short mid wicket. 23/4 after eight overs, what a start from India!

Now its James Nelson, who gets his first boundary. Short ball on the off stump and he brings out a backfoot pull shot. New Zealand need more of these. 22/3 after seven overs.

First ball into his third over, Saumy Pandey cleans up Lachlan Stackpole. Good drift by coming round the wicket, pitches on the middle and uproots the off. New Zealand in deep trouble in Bloemfontein. 

Skipper Oscar Jackson arrives in the middle and gets off the mark with a boundary, hanging back and cutting a length ball through point for four. 17/3 after six overs.

Raj Limbani has been breathing fire with the new ball. Had managed to beat the outside edge of the left-handed Lachlan Stackpole in his last over and now is able to get it between the bat and pads of right-handed batter James Nelson. 

A second maiden for him. New Zealand, 13/2 after five overs.

Saumy Pandey once again. Aravelly Avanish behind the stumps has been a livewire for India and he's keeping the boys up early in this defence as India look to spin from one end. Five runs off the fourth over, New Zealand are 13/2.

Limbani continues from the other end and what a start it has been for him and India. Two wickets in that first over and he's finding ample movement with the new ball. 

Lachlan Stackpole is beaten on the outside edge before he finally connects the first boundary for the Kiwis. A flashy drive through point for four. 8/2 after three overs.

A spinner in Saumy Pandey to bowl from the other end. New Zealand have been dealt not one but two early blows and so James Nelson and Lachlan Stackpole are rightly exercising caution. Just the three runs off the second over, 3/2.

Out come the Kiwi openers. They have a stiff task, 296 on this surface is going to be tough. And Raj Limbani has just made it even more so. First ball of the innings and Tom Jones is cleaned up! What a start for India!

Snehith Reddy doesn't last much longer, caught plumb as a fine first over comes to an end - two wickets and no run.

Mason Clarke cleans up Murugan Abhishek off the very first delivery. A good over to close the innings for New Zealand, just the six runs off it and India post a total of 296 for the Kiwis. 300 had looked like very much a certainty as Musheer Khan looked in full flight but the New Zealand bowlers have done well to close this game. 

Sachin Das, known for his ability to tonk the ball at distance, makes room on the leg side to power left-armer Ewald Schreuder over extra cover for four. But in his attempt to clear the same boundary, Das is caught at extra cover by Snehith Reddy and India are seven down. A sensational catch that, and it couldn't have come at a better time as India look to have the psychological one up over New Zealand with a 300 plus target.

Musheer Khan on the offensive straightaway in Mason Clarke's over. A slower, back of a length delivery is pulled over square leg for four. Then, a fuller delivery catches a thick edge and runs down short third. Eight runs off the first two deliveries but Musheer wants to keep going and eventually falls in the attempt to do so. A shorter one does the trick for the Kiwis as Musheer departs for a well made 131. India, 279/6 after 48 overs.

Musheer Khan is dropped off Ewald Schreuder at deep square leg and punishes the Kiwis off the very next delivery as he cuts a back of a length delivery to collect four runs. Nine runs come off the over. 267/5, reads the scoreboard with three overs left.

Musheer Khan with another maximum over the mid wicket fence and onto the grass banks. Brings up the 250 for India. 

Mason Clarkr meanwhile, gets a second breakthrough for the Kiwis as Priyanshu Moliya is caught looking to clear the same boundary Musheer has been after for the past couple of overs. 258/5 after 46 overs.

Ewald Schreuder to Musheer Khan, in the slot and the it's connected clean and over the mid wicket boundary for six. That's gone onto the banks. Clearly, getting past that triple figure score has got him even more confident. 10 runs come off the over. 249/4 after 45 overs.

He's got his second hundred of the tournament and now the onus lies with Musheer Khan to take India to a good total. 300, maybe? With him in the middle, it's surely possible. The right-hander is expected to up the ante and he gets the last ball of Mason Clarke's over past the fielder at backward point for four. 239/4 after 44 overs.

Ewald Schreuder - left arm pacer - back into the attack for New Zealand. A decent comeback at that, just the five runs off the over. But Musheer Khan takes a single off the last ball and gets his hundred. This has been a top-notch-gritty-innings from the younster. India, 231/4 after 43 overs.

Tsourgas to Aravelly from over the wicket, angled away from the southpaw, who gets an edge onto it and Thomson takes the catch behind the stumps. New Zealand have a fourth wicket just when India were harbouring hopes for a 300 plus total. 

Meanwhile Musheer Khan inches closer to a triple figure score, 97 at the end of the over. India, 226/4 after 42 overs.

Left-arm spinner Oliver Tewatiya continues from the other end and Aravelly Avanish takes the attack to him off the very first delivery of the 41st over - advancing down the wicket and smothering a straight six. 

Later in the over, Musheer Khan executes the reverse sweep to perfection and pickpockets four more runs. Good over that for India, 13 runs come off it. 219/3 after 41 overs.

Oh, that's got to hurt!

Ryan Tsourgas has caught Musheer Khan flush and the Indian batters goes down immediately. Going for a front-foot defense, it hit Musheer on the thigh. A bit of spray and the thigh guard is on, lesson learnt by the youngster as India go into the last 10 overs with 206/3 on the scoreboard.

Avanish has been sent with a clear message, to get that run rate up in the final overs as Musheer Khan holds one end and moves closer to his century. 

New Zealand however are doing really well to avoid boundaries. Snehith Reddy and Oliver Tewatiya with a couple of economic over. India, 203/3 after 39 overs.

Oliver Tewatiya removes the Indian captain. A tossed up delivery and Uday Saharan went for a slog sweep but could only find the fielder at deep mid wicket. 

New batterin Aravelly Avanish is able to clear the same boundary to get off the mark as India bring up the 200. 

Musheer Khan crunches it past sweeper cover to score and hit another boundary. India's No 3 has moved into the 80s now. The partnership is worth 80 as well. IND (186/2 for 2 after 34 overs; Musheer Khan 83* Uday Saharan - 31*)

First six of the innings and who else than Musheer Khan. he swept it over deep mid-wicket for a six. Fourteen runs came from Oliver Tewatiya's second over. IND (179/2 for 2 after 33 overs; Musheer Khan 78* Uday Saharan - 29*)

Swept and swept hard by Uday Saharan and he fetched another boundary. The captain who was looking a bit rusty is showing his intent with the bat. 

Uday Saharan plays a sweep shot behind square on the on-side to hit his first boundary. Suddenly the boundaries have started to come thick and fast for Inda. New Zealand were not able to convert the pressure into a wicket. IND (161/2 for 2 after 30 overs; Musheer Khan 68* Uday Saharan - 21*)

Another fifty for Musheer Khan in this competition. It has been a dream few days for the Khan family. His elder brother Sarfaraz has received his maiden call-up for the India Test team and Musheer has continued his streak in the U-19 World Cup. New Zealand spinner Zac Cumming and Snehit Reddy have kept the run flow in check. However, Musheer and Uday are rotating the strike at the regular intervals but no easy freebies so far from the Kiwi spinners.   IND (129/2 for 2 after 23 overs; Musheer Khan 49* Uday Saharan - 8*)
