An upbeat India, led by Shubman Gill, thrashed England by 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston for their first Test win at this very venue and level the series 1-1 after the first two Tests. Gill became the first batter in history to register a 250-plus and a 150-plus score in the same Test. The Indian skipper played two sublime innings, scoring 269 in the first innings before blitzing to a 161-run knock in the second. This helped India set England a target of 608, which the home side failed to chase and was bundled out for just 271.
With Jasprit Bumrah set to return in this Test, India’s bowling attack looks much stronger with the addition of new-ball specialist Akash Deep. Bumrah, who was managing his workload, opted out of the Birmingham Test, but Akash Deep stepped up in his absence and was the pick of Indian bowlers. His 10-wicket haul ensured that India did not miss Bumrah.
England are also expected to make wholesale changes in the bowling line-up, with Jofra Archer expected to return for England after four years in red-ball cricket. Josh Tongue and Brydon Carse are expected to be given rest, looking at their work rate. One of Gus Atkinson or Sam Cook can be picked for the third Test. Batting for both teams is likely to remain the same unless a forced injury change occurs.

According to the Met Office, London’s weather is expected to be quite hot with almost no rain forecast for the five-day encounter from July 10 to 14. The temperatures will range between 17 degrees Celsius and is expected to shoot up to as high as 32 degrees Celsius. The wind speeds will range from 10 km/hour and the humidity will stay around 84 per cent.

Unlike the two placid surfaces which were on offer at Headingley and Edgbaston, the Lord’s strip is expected to assist seam bowlers. The 8 ft slope from mid-wicket to covers will also assist the fast bowlers in getting lateral seam movement off the surface. The strip at Lord’s had enough grass ahead of the 3rd Test. However, it is expected to be shortened. Nonetheless, the pitch will not be a batter’s paradise, unlike that of Leeds and Birmingham.
