Australia vs Netherlands World Cup 2023 Highlights: Adam Zampa cleaned up the Dutch tail as he took 4 wickets with Australia demolishing Netherlands by 309 runs.
Earlier, centuries from David Warner and Glenn Maxwell helped Australia to post a mammoth 399 runs on the board in Delhi. The latter was also the fastest to make a 100 in the World Cups now. The Netherlands though started well with the ball script went horribly wrong for them as the final overs begun.

Loud review for a stumping now. Is that the last wicket? And that's it for the day. van Meekeren is the last man to go.
Zampa gets Edwrads LBW. Umpire turns it down. Australia review and ultraedge shows a nick. Edwards survives. Another wrong un and this time Dutt has to depart. LBW and the onfield umpire gets it spot on.
Marsh in to bowl the next over and he goes through Dutt's defence in back to back balls. A bouncer to end. Just 1 from this one.
Zampa in to bowl his second over he has bamboozled van Beek. The Dutch players get a touch and the NED are 7 down. Almost close to imploding. Another gone as Zampa wreaks havoc. It's a LBW and NED reviews. van der Merwe wallks back.
Marsh continues and aclassic pick up shot for a 4!! Amost players ito to Cummins next but just short. And gone!!! Nidamanuru flicks off his bat and the keepeer with an easy catch. The third umpire confirms the catch is cleam.
Zampa in the attack now and Nidamanuru wth a clever shot to 3rd man but a fielder is there. Just 4 from this one ultimately as NED struggle for boundaries.
Marsh in to bowl the next over amd 2 runs to start the first two balls. Thee's a chance on the last ball but Nidamanuru gets three as it ust over the fielder.
Cummins returns after the break and after Edwards takes a single off the first delivery, Nidamanuru fails to get off the mark in this over.
Marsh has been brought into the attack now and WHAT A CATCH by David Warner near the ropes to send back Engelbrecht. What a well-timed jump!!!
Cummins in to bowl the next one. NED mine 3 from the first 4 deliveries before the last two deliveries yield just dots. Just 3 from this one.
Hazlewood comes back and after 2 dots, gets a wide. Engelbrecht pulls next for one more. Edged for a single to third man but a fielder is deployed there. 3 from the lasat ball.
Cummins in to bowl the 11th and Bas de Leede smashes him to deep extra cover four. Text book shot and what was that? An LBW is given. NED will review this time. No bat involved. Ball tracking and it's umpire's call. Very, very unlucky for Bas de Leede.
Hazlewood bowls the last over of the first powerplay and he does what he was brought on for. Snares Ackermann. NED don't review.
Cummins brings himself in the attac k and after a quie few balls, Ackermann places the fourth for a boundary. 5 from this over.
Hazlewood starts the next over and Ackermann takes a single in the 2nd ball. The last balls are dots. Might have been an edge bu Cummins says no. 1 from this one
Starc continues and Engelbrecht starts his innings off with a boundary. Beautiful stroke. Decent over by the bowler. Keeps it at 4 this over.
Hazlewood continues and starts with 2 back to back dots. Finally gets a bowl on his bat hits it straight down for a four!! Oh dear!! Tries a quick single. It was a direct hit by Maxwell. Miles away from the crease. Singh gone.
Starc starts the 5th over and O Dowd defends. And another ball on the thigh but no appeal this time. Back to back appeals from Aus but Australia do not review. And got em the next ball. Gets the edhe and it's played on O Dowd's stumps.
2 half chances from Hazlewood's over. A nall hits the pad and it's too high and a run out chance, if only the bowler could take a direct hit. Good little over. Just 1.
Starc continues and that gets a leading edge and races over the boundary ropes. Again, a luck shot which gets an edge and over Warner's outstretched hands for four more. Huge shout for LBW but the umpire is unmoved. 9 from this one
Hazlewood in to bowl the second ande O Dowd has creamed the first delivery for a boundary. A single follows and Hazlewwod has just missed the edge of Singh. Nicely plays the 4rh off the backfoot for 4 more!! And again, same area and this time off the frontfoot for back to back boundaries. 14 from this one.
Here come both sets of players as Australia is followed by the NED openers. Starc to bowl o Vikram Singh. O Dowd is in the other end. 3 dots to start this one off as Singh tries to drive but misses the third. The last one is nicely timed for 4.
Well, that's quite a total from the Aussies. Things have changed dramatically in the last 30 minutes or so courtesy of a magnificent ton from Glenn Maxwell. it was thrilling to watch while he was smacking the bowlers all around the park and reminding everyone what he could do on his day. Not to forget David Warner who slammed another 100 today his second of this tournament. This is a stunning effort from the Aussies. One must say it is a bit too much for the Netherlands to chase however, if they can at least get close to the target we would have quite the match on our hands.
Glenn Maxwell has slammed the fastest World Cup 100. This has been some hitting from the Aussie player. Aiden Markam created the record early on in the tournament against Sri Lanka and today Maxwell broke the record with nine balls to spare. Sheer brilliance from the Aussie allrounder he has been top-notch. Bas De Leede who was the bowler delivered a few freebies as well in that previous over when Maxwell was hitting sixes for fun over the square-leg region. He has turned this innings on its head. And if Australia were to win this game it is hard to see anyone else get man of the match.
Glenn Maxwell's show has started. Finally, the big show is turning it on in this World Cup. it is the kind of ground where he would enjoy batting given the dimensions and surface on offer and he is doing exactly that. It is going horribly wrong for the Dutch. Not long ago things were looking comfortable for the Dutch but now there are going to go wrong. Australia is now looking good for 370-380 kind of total. This will be an uphill task for the Netherlands. For the most part they did everything well but its just the difference in skill level that is costing them.
Consecutive hundreds for Australia in WC
2 - Mark Waugh (1996)
2 - Ricky Ponting (2003-07)
2 - Matthew Hayden (2007)
2 - David Warner (2023)*
Cameron Green departs. Trying to snatch a quick run he gets himself runout for a brilliant piece of fielding. We are back at it again with this Australian side. The moment top order falls they start to collapse immediately. Not long ago it looked like they were going to score around the 360-370 mark but now getting to 330 would be a victory. Though they have been winning games they still are not playing their best cricket yet. It is quite scary to think about what will they do when everyone starts to play at their best. We have to see on what role will they use Travis Head.

David Warner pulls the ball on the leg takes the single and does his vintage celebration and Pushpa mannerism another 100 for the batter. However, he tried to pull his scoop shot but could not get the distance as he was caught at fine-leg. Jos Inglis who was batting well was caught at deep square boundary trying to pull. A good couple of wickets for Netherlands now they have pulled back things quite a bit. This is the phase of play where Australia tends to struggle when the top order is dismissed and the late middle-order have to score some quick runs.
Marnus tried to keep the momentum going as he tried to hit one over mid-on fielder but he could not time the ball and was caught by the fielder. De Leede does have the knack of picking wickets with the old ball. Though he has gone for a few runs today he has still chipped in with a wicket. Jos Inglis has walked into the middle and he is another player who has been in good touch. He is good with scoops and shots behind the wicket like most keepers and Dutch has to be careful and protect those areas. They are leaking a few runs now Netherlands. This is the phase things may get bad to worse pretty quickly for them.
Warner is closing in on another 100 here. Today is the day when the Aussies might not only look to win the game but also win it with a big margin so that it can help them with their Net Run Rate which got a huge dent against South Africa. Marnus Labuschange on the other hand has gone past his 50 as well. It will be interesting to see what Australia will do once Travis Head is fit. As of now, Marnus is doing no harm to his spot with the knock he is playing today. But the important thing is him scoring a 100 today. If he can do that he wont have look over his shoulder.
Bas de Leede back into the attack and Warner welcomes him back with a beautiful four before taking a single to put Labuschagne on strike. Another four but's that's unlucky. Migh have hit the pads before running to third man. NED reviews for a LBW though. Yeah. it's off the bat but on the pads. Review lost. Good over for AUS. 10 from it.
van der Merweback in the attack and Warner with a single to bring up Australia's 200. Labuscagne returns the favour before Warner takes a single again. Scoreboard keeps ticking along. 4 from the over.
van Meekeren in the attack now and starts with a single off the first 2 deliveries. Warner with a single next and the scoreboard is being kept busy by the Aussie batters. Labuschagne pull the fourth for a for as the pressure continues. 7 from this one as well.
Aryan Dutt back in the attack and Netherlands really need a wicket or two before Australia really runs away with the game. Labuschagne sweeps and gets a four off the penultimate ball of this over. 7 from it.
Things have gone standstill for a bit now. Not much has happened since Smith's wicket. Labuschange is looking to get himself in and Warner as he is nearing his 100 is looking to take things a bit slowly. Van Meekeren has been brought into the attack and he has tested Warner with a few bumpers today his execution has been top-notch on this surface which is not offering much for the pace bowlers. Warner too unlike him who is used to playing bouncers is struggling a beat to deal with those sharp bumpers. Good period for the Dutch if they can manage to chip in with a wicket that can get back into this game.
All-rounder Roelof van der Merwe had stressed ahead of the game that facing his former national side South Africa ‘dragged the same weight for him’ as playing any other team at the World Cup. But on Tuesday, that barely looked the case as soon as he was done bowling his first delivery. A wide-arm slider angled in from round the wicket left Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma’s middle and leg stumps toppled. Van der Merwe’s joyous scream could be heard reverberating around the HPCA Stadium.
Most of the 10,000-plus crowd in the stands seemed to be behind the Men in Orange, perhaps with some foresight of what was to follow. A night that saw the Dutch upsetting the Proteas at a Cricket World Cup for the second time in less than a year with a 38-run margin. The Netherlands, who were reduced to 82/5 and later 140/7, managed to reach 245 in 43 overs in the rain-reduced encounter, before bundling out South Africa for 207. (Read more from Rahul Pandey)
Marnus Labuschange has walked into the middle. He has had a subdued tournament so far. It is important for him to start well here and keep the tempo going as the stage is nicely set for him. Once again Dutch captain has been proactive with his bowling changes he constantly is bringing in the changes. Warner on the other hand is piling on another good score today. It has been a fantastic innings from the Aussie opener yet again. He will be hoping to make another massive score today.
Well, it is hard to explain in the last 10 minutes or so. But it was sheer brilliance from Van der Merwe on the field. First, he almost got the wicket of Warner. We say almost as if it was a stunning effort by him however, replays showed some part of the ball hit the ground. And then he went to point and Smith cut a ball and pulled a stunner this time. Though it was sent upstairs to check the third umpire this time said it was out and it was a clean catch. What an effort from the Dutchmen. It has been 10 minutes of masterful fielding. They have got spirit about them these dutch folks and they are showing it.

Both batters are well set now for Australia and they are looking in good form. The surface has gone a bit slower but it is nothing extravagant yet. It might be an ideal thing for Scott Edwards to keep the squeeze on with spinners from both ends for a while. Also, the Dutch spinners have been quicker through the air and it might not be a bad idea for them to slow things down. They are trying the Dutch to pick wickets but it is not happening. These batters have batted brilliantly they are laying a solid foundation here for the big hitters to follow.
We had a comedy of errors all around. David Warner nudged the ball onto the leg-side to the mid-on fielder and looked for a single. Steve Smith who was ball-watching took a couple of steps and for some reason decided he wouldn't go for the single and sold Warner down the river. However, a misfield from the fielder meant that Warner had enough time to get back however, he was not happy with it and showed his discontent clearly. In the last few minutes Netherlands have tightened things up and are exerting a bit of pressure on the bowlers here.

The dutch have been pretty stubborn with their bowling changes in all the games they have played so far. They don't tend to keep bowlers for longer spells but constantly chop and change. This can go either way for the teams as the constant chopping and changing means the batters will not be able to line up the bowlers and on the other hand spinners tend to like bowling longer spells which might be not possible with this strategy. Irrespective of the flaws in the tactic Netherlands have been outstanding in their effort. They tend to give their everything with all the departments that is what makes them neutral's favourite.
Steve Smith is looking in fantastic touch today. He has got a flurry of boundaries away in the Logan van Beek over. The bowler strayed the ball on the leg-side and the batter capitalised on them. These are good signs for Australia after losing two of their first games that are making a roaring comeback in this tournament and now the momentum is on their side. This is what happens in the long tournaments there is always an opportunity for quality sides to make a comeback and this Australian side is a quality side. David Warner too on the other hand is looking in sublime touch after the massive ton he made against Pakistan in the previous game.
This surface looks like a belter. Expect a lot of runs from Australia. Though they have lost an early wicket they have started very well. Good opportunity for Steven Smith who has been out of form this tournament to make some runs. Netherlands bowlers need to be a bit careful as well the wicket is offering nothing at this point in time. The last game here was between England and Afghanistan when the surface did help spinners. If it will turn today only time will answer. However, it is a top call from Cummins to win the toss unlike England who opted to bowl first under the heat and suffered later in the evening.
Steve Smith tucks it away on the leg side to get a boundary and he is up and running. Big opportunity for Smith to score some runs and get the form back.
Score after 6 overs
AUS 38-1
Logan van Beek comes into the attack and strikes straightaway on the fifth ball of his over. Mitch Marsh, who was looking dangerous, is gone courtesy of a poor shot. It was a short one and outside the off stump and Mitchell Marsh wanted to smash it away but all he got was a top-edge. Ackermann takes the catch.
Score after 4 overs
AUS 29-1
0 4 4 4 4 0 = 16 from the over by Dutt. Aryan Dutt was given his second over on the trot but David Warner got the measure of his man and spanked him away for four boundaries in the over. Just the start Australia would have wanted
Score after 3 overs
AUS 27-0
Mitchell Marsh is away with two fours in the first over from Dutt and both of them showed that this is a belter of a pitch. There was a bit off poor fielding involved as well and that wont help the Dutch
Score after 1 overs
AUS 8-0
Mitchell Marsh and Warner are at the crease. Mitchell Marsh is on strike. Aryan Dutt will open the attack
The return of Travis Head has been postponed. Australia's regular opener arrived in Delhi and did a full training session on Monday night, but he has not been deemed ready to be included in the team today. Marcus Stoinis, nursing an injury, has also been rested, with Cameron Green replacing him in the XI as the only change for the Aussies. Netherlands are unchanged from their narrow defeat to Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Saturday.

Australia have won the toss and opted to bat. "Looks like a lovely wicket. The sun is out. Happy with the way we have played the last couple of games. The bridge is still too far for Head. Still would need a few more days. Stoinis has a niggly calf. Cam Green comes in. Looks a good day to score runs." - says Pat Cummins
"Same pitch as Sri Lanka and South Africa. Last time we had more grass, it was harder. This is less grass and less hard. A little sheen as well on the pitch. It should be a hard job for the bowlers, feels Waqar Younis. So another batting beauty and expect plenty of runs." - say Waqar Younis and Pommie Mbangwa.
Following their scalping of South Africa, if the Netherlands notch a win over a team like Australia too, it would shake cricket fans around the world, ripples of which, they would hope, are felt back home too.
The team eyes their diversity – that they are essentially a melting pot of different nationalities – as a strength. “It’s one of our strengths. A group of people brought up in different parts of the world, different backgrounds, culture, religion, it’s something we really embrace as a unit,” Edwards said. “This is something I have not experienced in other groups.” “Often we get quite a lot of stick for saying that we’re an international team, since we have guys from all around the world. But the fact is that all of us have our connections to the Dutch, which mean a lot to us. It’s not like we are just here because we thought it was an easy option,” Max O’Dowd, whose father was a first-class cricketer in New Zealand, said. “I think it is pretty cool that we can unite under one group and represent the Netherlands.”
If their Tuesday afternoon training session was anything to go by, any hurried urgency or mild panic has been replaced by a certain kind of ease. There were only hour-long sessions for their top batsmen. Marnus Labuschagne put in a routine shift. Warner looked in solid touch, when timing the ball with traditional strokes as well as when experimenting a few pinch-hitting techniques. Steve Smith – well overdue a meaningful contribution in this tournament – was the most animated, working on a very specific area of his game, perhaps his recent struggles against seam early in his innings.
Head’s inclusion is likely to push Smith down to number four and remove Labuschagne from the playing XI. The team’s balance at the top of the batting order will be aided by Head, but his handy off-spin might reduce the pressure from Glen Maxwell’s shoulders, who has been Australia’s only spin option outside of Zampa.
