Dr Grant of Ruby Hall passes away at 91

Dr Keki Byramjee Grant (91),founder,chairman and managing trustee of Grant Medical Foundation,which runs Ruby Hall Clinic breathed his last on Monday evening.

Dr Keki Byramjee Grant (91),founder,chairman and managing trustee of Grant Medical Foundation,which runs Ruby Hall Clinic breathed his last on Monday evening. He was hospitalised on January 1 for severe back pain and urinary infection and was in a critical condition.

Grant was on ventilator since Sunday evening and he passed away on Monday night,according to hospital authorities. His funeral will be held at 8 am on Tuesday.

Grant’s son Dr Parvez Grant,also a cardiologist,told The Indian Express that his father had not been well for last last three months. While he recovered initially,three days ago he had severe back pain and was hospitalised. “He died of old age and infection. But the reason behind my father’s long life was that he worked hard entire lifetime and ate the right food,said Dr Parvez.

Dr Prachee Sathe,director of the ICU at Ruby Hall,said his condition was serious and the cardiologist also had an urinary infection. Just one-and-a-half months ago Grant was admitted to the hospital as he had suffered a transient cardiac arrest. He had recovered after treatment and was soon back at the hospital,Sathe said. Bomi Bhote,CEO of Ruby Hall,said he had been in and out of hospital but had recovered fast.

A dynamic leader with dedication and foresight,Grant’s unstinted devotion and commitment has been instrumental in placing Ruby Hall Clinic as one of the premier healthcare institutions in the country,said Bhote. What Ruby Hall is today is the work of this great individual,whose dream was to make Pune a centre for medical care,he added.

Grant started Ruby Clinic in 1959 with four beds. “His vision and dedication facilitated Ruby Hall Clinic to become a 550-bed hospital.”
