Despite being the GenNext of the Indian poltical sccene,Sachin Pilot believes that elections are an “emotional” affair requiring personal contact with voters. “I personally believe that elections in India are still very physical very emotional and you have to connect to the people who represent you and nothing can substitute your interaction and your travelling,” he said.
Sachin who is carrying out exhaustive tours of his new constituency Ajmer,as his pocket borough Dausa seat was declared a reserved seat,,feels bonding with electorate was the mantra for winning the battle of votes. “The people of the area will not be able to relate with you unless you create that bond amongst your electorate. I think that is the most important thing in the Indian democratic context,” he said.
Talking about vacating Dausa,he said,”The people of Dausa have seen us through bad and good times. Since I was very young I have grown up meeting the people there, being with them and hence that special bond will always be there.”
Embarking on his campaign which would be dotted with a number of his election rallies in other states for Congress candidates,Sachin said that Ajmer faces the “standard problems that we have in most parts of the country – irrigation, sanitation, health care and education”.
I would, however, like to work for the overall development of the constituency, the leader added.
He also says that it is a challenge as well as an opportunity to prove at Ajmer which is currently held by the BJP.
“But I am quiet confident that I will win that seat for the Congress party and we all also hope that our performance increases dramatically in Rajasthan,” Sachin said.
Terming his first stint at the Lok Sabha as “eventful and enriching” with issues like the nuclear deal, the agrarian crisis, the budget, economic policy issues and terrorism being discussed in the House,Sachin jokingly adds that probably “the five years have gone very quickly”.
