Will fight cash-for-vote case against its members: BJP

BJP alleged that the government had treated the whistleblowers and bribe-givers alike.

BJP on Thursday alleged that the government had treated the whistleblowers and bribe-givers alike in the cash-for-vote scam, and declared that it would fight the case filed against senior leader L K Advani’s former aide Sudheendhra Kulkarni and two former party MPs.

“At a time when we are talking about the Lokpal Bill and corruption, the charge sheet in the cash-for-vote scam has been filed. The whistleblowers have been equated with the bribe-givers in the charge sheet,” Deputy Leader of BJP in the Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia told reporters.

He said the BJP will legally fight out the case.

Along with Kulkarni, two former BJP MPs — Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagore who had placed wads of cash in the Lok Sabha moments before the trust vote — have also been chargesheeted. They lost the general elections in 2009. The third MP,Ashok Argal,is still a member of the Lok Sabha. Argal has not been named in the charge sheet.

The BJP maintains that these are whistleblowers who had exposed government attempts to buy its MPs for the trust vote.

Former Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh and his alleged aide Sanjiv Saxena, who have been chargesheeted too, have been labelled as bribe-givers by the main opposition.
