Telangana Congress leaders want the party to own a television channel, a newspaper and set up a strong social media cell to popularise its achievements.

The suggestion was made at the party’s Telangana unit here on Monday where the leaders discussed how the Telugu Desam Party, YSR Congress Party and Telangana Rashtra Samiti utilised services of TV channels and newspapers affiliated to them in the run-up to the elections. The Congress, on the other hand, failed to electorally benefit from its actions like implementing welfare schemes.

“The Congress suffered such a defeat in Telangana because it did not have a medium to promote and publicise its achievements,’’ Suresh Reddy, former Assembly Speaker, said on Monday. “Every party worker should donate money for setting up our own media. We should also set up a strong social media cell in Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee and all party leaders should join it,’’ Reddy said.
