After a mega demonstration in Bengaluru, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah are set to lead a protest in Belagavi on Monday against the “Centre’s unchecked price rise”.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal, and senior Congress leaders are likely to participate in the protest.
Former Karnataka Congress working president Saleem Ahmed said, “While global crude prices have been falling, the Union government has heartlessly hiked the prices of petrol, diesel, and even LPG. The people are being crushed with relentless prices.”
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea seeking a direction to the Centre to take appropriate steps to prohibit streaming of sexually explicit content on OTT and social media platforms.
The plea has sought laying down of guidelines constituting a National Content Control Authority to prohibit sexually explicit content on these platforms.
According to the top court’s cause list of April 28, the petition is slated to come up for hearing before a Bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih.
“Such sexually deviant material pollute the minds of youth, children and even grown up persons which gives rise to perverted and unnatural sexual tendencies thereby leading to an increase in the crime rate,” the plea said.
It has sought a direction to the Centre to stop access to social media and OTT platforms until these platforms formulate a mechanism to ensure that all pornographic content is made inaccessible, especially to children and minors in India.
The NCP will start a special campaign from April 28 to mark the Foundation Day of Maharashtra, which is observed on May 1, party MP Sunil Tatkare said last week.
Under the “Gadkille Mati aani Nadyanche Jalkumbh Yatra”, soil from forts and water from rivers will be carried in celebratory processions in Marathwada region, he said.
“The yatra will start in Hingoli and pass through important cultural and historic locations including Aundha Nagnath, Ziro Phata (Parbhani), Wasmat, Nanded, Loha, Kandhar, and halt at Jalkot. On April 29, the yatra will travel through Udgir, Latur, Ausa, Umarga, and Naldurg and reach Tuljapur. On April 30, it will move through Badnapur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar before proceeding to Mumbai,” he said.
Results of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) will be announced on Monday.
Voting for the JNUSU body was held on April 25 and according to the JNU Students’ Union Election Committee, more than 69.6% students came out to vote.

The Opposition Congress in Odisha announced that it would organise ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ (save the Constitution) rallies across the state from Monday.
Addressing a press conference, state Congress in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu said a series of rallies will be organised at the district, division and assembly segment levels to seek “social, political and economic justice”.
The state-level ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rally will be held in Bhubaneswar on April 28, followed by district-level rallies from May 3 to 10, he said.
