Amid reports that the BJP-led government may soon announce the implementation of the ‘one-rank, one-pension’ (OROP) scheme, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday met former personnel of the armed forces in New Delhi and slammed the Centre for not implementing OROP so far.

Rahul pointed out that the scheme, initiated by the Congress-led UPA government, has not been implemented in the one year the NDA government has been in power. The government has not moved forward on this issue, he claimed.

“They (former servicemen) have been knocking on the doors of the government, but there is no response. The Army, Navy and Air Force take care of the nation, they secure our borders. Their demands should be met,” he said. “We (the UPA government) had allotted money and also taken a decision. One year has passed and this should happen at the earliest.”
