No word on Italians yet,Maoists send 13 demands

Fate of 2 Italians taken hostage by Maoists in Orissa’s Kandhamal district remained unknown.

The fate of two Italians taken hostage by Maoists in Orissa’s Kandhamal district remained unknown today even as the state government received a pamphlet containing their 13 demands.

The state’s offer of negotiations has not received any response. The Maoists have not named any negotiator either.

“A pamphlet in the name of ‘Sunil’,secretary of the Orissa State Organising Committee of the CPI (Maoist),containing 13 of their demands has been received,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told the Assembly,adding that they would decide their course of action once the Maoists have named those who would hold talks on their behalf.

Appealing to the Maoists to release Paolo Bosusco and Claudio Colangelo,Patnaik said: “I once again make a strong appeal on humane grounds in this august House to release the two Italian nationals immediately and to see they are unharmed.”

Earlier,Home Secretary U N Behera said: “The Chief Minister has made it clear that we are open to any kind of negotiation under the law.”
