New entrant calls Chouhan ‘a PM material’

A day after he joined the BJP, former Congress leader Sanjay Pathak Tuesday said Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan is “prime ministerial material”.

Chouhan was the chief guest of a function organised by Pathak in Katni, where he got thousands of his supporters to switch their loyalty to the ruling party. The MLA from Vijayraghavgarh joined the BJP Monday. His father had been a minister in the Digvijaya Singh government and his mother a mayor of Katni, both in the Congress.

“You are not CM material because you are PM material,’’ Pathak claimed to have told Chouhan. The CM, however. stayed silent on the topic. “I am always his fan. I used to criticise him only because it was my dharma as I was part of the Opposition,’’ said the mining baron whose defection, his Congress colleagues alleged, has been dictated by business interests. “We used to look for issues to damage him personally but could never get one. We could never convince people,’’ Pathak said.

Chouhan also praised Pathak. “Had it not been for Pathak, the Congress would have found it difficult to hold rallies here,’’ Chouhan said.
