Senior cabinet minister Jaynarayan Vyas on Wednesday said it will be grossly unfair to link the state government to the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre just because BJP MLA Dr Maya Kodnani has been convicted in the case.
First of all let me make it clear that an MLA is not a government functionary. Dr Mayaben was not a minister when the incident happened. She was only an MLA from that area, said Vyas, the official spokesperson of the government. …And if one tries to link the fact of her being an MLA to the state governments is involvement in the incident,it will be grossly unfair, he added.
We cannot link every incident to the party. Its very unfair on part of the media to say that Mayaben,a former minister,is convicted by the court. She was not a minister when the incident had happened, Vyas said, adding that courts judgments are not for comments or celebrations.
On the Congress demand of resignation of Chief Minister Narendra Modi,he said,Congress is trying to malign the government by associating Dr Kodnani and governments name with the riots.
Pointing out that there had been incidents in almost all the states wherein a sitting MLA was convicted,he said,Congress should start charity from their home and seek Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlots resignation as his minister (Mahipal Singh) Maderna has been proven guilty in a murder case. They should also take resignation of the Haryana CM as (former minister) Gopal Kanda has been accused of abatement to suicide. I would like to ask the Union government if there are different standards for the Congress, the BJP and the Gujarat CM.
