Calling it a novel experiment in the state’s history, Opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh has formed a shadow cabinet and put each MLA in charge of a ministry or department and a few additional subjects, to keep track of. Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare on Thursday said ministers and bureaucrats had become loose cannons leading to corruption and misgovernance, and the shadow cabinet was needed to keep them in check. While nine senior Congress MLAs, including former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, will be free to talk on all subjects, 22 other MLAs have been allotted a main ministry and at least two or three additional subjects to keep track of. The MLAs had been asked to convey their area of interests. AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s son Jaivardhan’s main responsibility will be education (school/higher/technical) and skill development and he will have to keep track of health and family welfare, medical education and science and technology. They have been asked to collect copies of all major reports from the last three years. They have been told to study their subjects sincerely and participate in debates in the House to put the government on the mat. The Congress said people can directly get in touch with the members of the shadow cabinet.
