Calling it the first phase of their agitation that began after the one-day session of the Assembly called to pass the supplementary budget was declared over on Tuesday evening, the Opposition legislators announced that they will go back to their respective constituencies and raise the issue of injustice to farmers during the second phase.

By noon it was clear that the Congress MLAs were in a mood to end the protest. Around 4 pm, AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh ended the fast by offering a glass of juice to each of the fasting MLAs who had by then moved to the steps leading to the main entrance of the Assembly premises.

Singh claimed the Congress legislators decided to leave the assembly premises on a request from AICC president Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders who were monitoring the developments from Delhi.
