The Left parties in Jharkhand on Monday described as “cheap political drama” the BJP’s decision to quit from the state assembly en masse.
“It is nothing but a cheap political drama being enacted by the BJP. If they are serious to quit they should have sent their resignation letters to the Speaker instead of giving them to state party unit president,” CPI’s national council member Khagendra Thakur said here.
Aiming to put pressure for early elections in Jharkhand, now under President’s Rule,BJP’s state unit president Raghuvar Das yesterday collected resignation letters of all the 21 party MLAs. He was waiting for the party’s central leadership’s permission to submit it to the Speaker.
“Why didn’t they resign when the assembly was put under suspended animation on January 19 when President’s rule was imposed. They even got a second chance to do so in July when the President’s rule was extended for another six months,” CPI(M)’s Central Committee member J S Majumdar.
AICC spokesman Abhishek Manu Singh had yesterday described the BJP’s latest initiative to protest President’s Rule as ‘political melodrama’. President’s rule was imposed in Jharkhand on January 19 after JMM president Shibu Soren quit as chief minister following his defeat in the Tamar assembly bypoll.
