JJP stares at wipeout, all 10 candidates set to forfeit deposits

The party had fielded Dushyant’s mother and sitting MLA Naina Singh Chautala from Hisar, where she managed to poll only 11,917 votes as of 1.45 pm, fewer than BSP’s Desh Raj who secured over 14,000 votes.

The leads of the Lok Sabha polls seem to be spelling doom for former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which looks set to forfeit deposits in all 10 seats.

The party had fielded Dushyant’s mother and sitting MLA Naina Singh Chautala from Hisar, where she managed to poll only 11,917 votes as of 1.45 pm, fewer than BSP’s Desh Raj who secured over 14,000 votes. The seat was won by Dushyant on an INLD ticket in 2014.

Dushyant had floated the JJP in 2018 following a bitter family feud and won 10 seats in the 2019 Assembly polls. He joined hands with the BJP and joined the Manohar Lal Khattar government. In March this year, the BJP and JJP snapped ties.

In neighbouring Hisar, which has in the past been seen as a Chautala stronghold, Ramesh Khatak of the JJP managed to poll only 13,986 votes, far lesser than INLD candidate Sandeep Lot Valmiki, who polled 60,286 votes as of 1.45 pm.

The JJP is faring poorly in other constituencies too. In Kurukshetra, the party candidate secured only 2,790 votes while INLD candidate and sitting MLA Abhay Singh Chautala managed to poll just over 33,000 votes.
