JD(U) calls for debate on role of governors

“When the debate on governors’ appointment has already started, then why not look at the role and the process of appointment of a governor?”, party secretary-general and Rajya Sabha member K C Tyagi asked.

Amidst the controversy over the move of the Narendra Modi-led government to remove some of the state governors appointed by the UPA regime, the JD(U) Wednesday called for a debate on the very institution of governor.

“When the debate on governors’ appointment has already started, then why not look at the role and the process of appointment of a governor?”, party secretary-general and Rajya Sabha member K C Tyagi asked. “The JD(U) would like to initiate a meaningful debate in the budget session of Parliament regarding the role of a governor as well as the need for this post,” he said.

Tyagi said there was a history of state governors working in a partisan or even an illegal manner. He also cited examples to back his argument.
