Guj Cong alleges irregularities in state voters list

Alleging large-scale irregularities in the voters’ list in the Narendra Modi-ruled state,Gujarat unit of the Congress today approached the Election Commission and demanded a review to weed out “bogus voters”.

“There are large-scale irregularities in the voters’ list in Gujarat with duplication of as many as 7000 names in some constituencies,” AICC General Secretary in-charge of Gujarat B K Hariprasad told reporters here.

A delegation comprising Hariprasad,Gujarat Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil,AICC Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy,state unit President Siddharth Patel and party spokesman Manish Tewari met Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla.

They demanded an immediate review of the voters’ list and appealed to the Commission to stop the BJP government from using e-voting in the upcoming local bodies’ elections.

“Such duplication in the voters’ list raise a question mark over the conduct of fair elections,” Gohil said.

He claimed that nearly 30 lakh names of voters were duplicated in the list.
