FIR against Tehelka magazine for calling Thackeray ‘terrorist’

Shiv Sena protesters also demanded an unconditional apology from the magazine's editor.

Shiv Sena workers on Monday held a protest in Mumbai against an article published in weekly magazine Tehelka on late party chief Bal Thackeray, while an FIR has been filed in adjoining Thane district.

Sena workers protested at Nariman Point area in South Mumbai, burning copies of the magazine to vent their anger against the article.

The protesters also demanded an unconditional apology from the magazine’s editor.

A case was registered at a Thane police station over publication of the article.

“A case has been registered at Rabodi Police Station under Section 153 (a)(b) of IPC against the editor of the magazine,” an official spokesperson of the police said.

Section 153 deals with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony and national integration.

He said,”In the morning some people gathered near Rabodi police station and sought action against the magazine. So a case has been registered.”
