CPM critical about Chidambaram’s comment

The CPM criticised P Chidambaram for saying that Left parties were spreading myths about poverty in the country.

The CPI(M) on Sunday criticised Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for saying that Left parties were spreading myths about poverty in the country and that they would ‘meet their Waterloo’ in the next Assembly election.

The Party’s Central Committee member Nirupam Sen it was only the Left parties which had been questioning the Centre’s anti-people economic policies since long.

“What we are saying now is nothing new and very much based on the report of Arjun Sengupta Commission appointed by the UPA Government,” Sen said here.

The National Commission for Enterprises in Unorganised Sector was set up by the Congress-led UPA Government in September 2004 with Arjun Sengupta as its chairman. It presented its report on social security for unorganized workers on May 16,2006,to the Prime Minister,Sen said.

“As long as we were with the UPA,we tried to move the government in right direction with right economic policies for the benefit of the people. But the UPA 2,led by Congress,deviated from the path compromising the nation’s interest,” Sen,who is also the state Commerce and Industry Minister,said.

“The positive results the UPA government achieved initially was due to pressure from Left parties. Many economic parameters improved during this period which the Congress cannot deny.”
