Condemning VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi's "Muslim-free India" remark on Wednesday, CPI accused right wing outfits of creating "communally-charged atmosphere" eying Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. The party also asked the Centre to take action against those making such "provocative" statements. "They are creating such a situation. . .they think hatred can be spread against a particular community to polarise people on communal line," said CPI national secretary, D Raja. Raja said it is all happening because UP is going to polls in 2017. "They want communally charged up atmosphere ahead of the polls," he said. [related-post] He urged people and "particularly those from UP" to see into the "sinister designs" of Sangh Parivar behind such statements and "not fall prey" to the same. ". . . the Union Home Ministry must also take action against those who are making such atrocious and provocative statements," the 67-year-old parliamentarian said. On Tuesday, VHP leader Prachi had said it is time to make India "free of Muslims". Known for courting controversies, she had claimed the mission of a "Congress-free India" has already been "accomplished" and it is now time to "rid the country of Muslims".
