AAP creates history in Punjab, worst ever defeat for Congress in Faridkot

AAP trailed only in one constituency – Gidderbaha where Congress was at number 1 and SAD at number 2 while AAP trailed with over 37,000 votes from Congress.

From a professor of English to a member parlianment, 73 year old Sadhu Singh indeed created history in Faridkot by winning with a record margin of 172, 516 votes. He was the candidate of Aam Admi Party(AAP). He defeated his nearest rival SAD’s Paramjeet Kaur Gulshan – a two time MP who had won her  2009 lok sabha elections from Faridkot with over 68,000 votes from Congress’s Sukhwinder Singh Danny. However Congress’s Joginder Singh Pangrainian finished third by losing with over  2.78 lakh votes and this was one of the worst ever defeat of Congress in this constituency.

It was Sadhu Singh’s first ever election after he became part of AAP  about 5 months back.  A jubilant Sadhu Singh after getting the winning certificate from DC office said,” I had never ever contested even a single election till date and it was a jackpot indeed for me. I am thankful to the masses for this biggest victory and I am having the lead at number 2 in Punjab after AAP’s Bhagwant Mann. I am thrilled .” A confident Sadhu Singh had already asked the halwais 2 days back to make ladoos and the preparation had started well in his house only and today was the distribution time. A humble professor who could not even complete campaign in his entire constituency due to lack of resources, was today happy to see public support. His supporters said,” people used to come on their own to attend our public meetings and the change was visible here.”

Sadhu Singh who served as an English professor in Brijendra college Faridkot post retirement was teaching in Faridkot University Nursing college and while teaching, he contested this election. A popular teacher among his students, was helped a lot by his ex-students in his entire campaign.  With no specific agenda, Sadhu Singh said,” I will live up to the expectations of the masses and as they have voted for cleaning of the system, I will help them in getting this `clean’ system actually. “ But how…..AAP MP was not clear as he said,” that I have not yet chalked out. Looking at the constituency wise break  Joginder Singh Panjgrainian- who is the sitting MLA of Jaitu- AAP took a lead by 16420 votes from SAD’s Gulshan while Joginder finished at number 3 in his own area by huge trail of over 25,000 votes.
