BJP won’t form government at Centre in 2024, says Tripura Congress chief

Tripura Congress president Birajit Sinha said Thursday that the BJP would not form a government at the Centre again and that the Congress would rule the country along with other Opposition parties after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

“When there is a change of guard at the Centre, changes happen in the Northeast as well. There are many MPs and chief ministers in the Northeast who have a Congress DNA. Just wait and see. We hope there will be an anti-BJP wave,” Sinha told reporters in Agartala.

Sinha said the Congress would soon start a series of organisational meetings at the block and district levels as part of its preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.

“There was violence after the (Assembly) poll results came out. Houses, shops and rubber plantations were set on fire. Many people are yet to return to their homes. Our preparations got delayed due to this. We will start our organisational meetings soon. We are hopeful of good results in the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

Sinha added that the Congress would hold a Guwahati Abhiyan on May 7 and meet the Northeast Frontier Railway general manager with demands to set up a railway division headquartered in Dharmanagar in Tripura North district and a second railway line connecting the district and subdivisional headquarters.

“We will submit a memorandum with these demands on May 8. The development of any state or country comes with the development of transportation,” he said.
