A Bangladeshi national was arrested and 900 yaba tablets were seized from his possession in Tripura’s Kulubari, a bordering village at Sonamura in Sepahijala district, the police said on Monday. The person, identified as Aryan Hossain, a resident of Comilla district of Bangladesh, is suspected to have drug smuggling links. The police said Hossain entered the state without any legal document to collect the contraband items. "We arrested him on the basis of our secret information on Sunday. We charged him under the Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances Act and the Passport Act and produced him before a court," said a senior police officer from the Sonamura police station. The court sent the man to police custody. The police said he tried to flee custody on Tuesday morning but was apprehended before he could escape. Two days back, a person was arrested along with 49 packets of cannabis from a container at Churaibari along the Tripura-Assam border. The vehicle was trying to move to Assam. Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which are still unfenced due to local disputes.
