BULAWAYO, March 15: Pakistan made a solid but cautious start against Zimbabwe in the first cricket Test today.
Replying to Zimbabwe’s 321, Pakistan lost Saeed Anwar but anchored on 77-1 after 30 overs at the close of the second day’s play.
Pakistan are 254 runs behind with nine wickets in hand.
Zimbabwe got a breakthrough when they least expected it after Anwar and Ali Naqvi had looked untroubled in fashioning a half century opening stand.
Of that, Anwar hit 33 which was laced with five fours and he was particularly harsh on Heath Streak who bowled on untidy first spell.
But after putting on 58 for the first wicket. Anwar flashed at second-change Guy Whittall’s medium pace and edged behind.
Earlier, Grant Flower became only the second Zimbabwean to carry his bat through an innings in their first innings score of 321.
