Indian cricket Board has decided to invite Zimbabwe ‘A’ to participate in this year’s edition of the Duleep Trophy.
“We have taken the decision to have Zimbabwe A as an extra side in this year’s Duleep Trophy,” said the joint-secretary of the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) Goutam Dasgupta here this evening.
This development comes as a result of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) President Peter Chingoka’s requests to the BCCI during his visit to Kolkata last week.
The decision follows another recent development that saw the Indian Board contemplate roping in a National Cricket Academy (NCA) side for the Duleep Trophy.
However, the BCCI soon turned down the idea, citing that it would be too soon for the under-22 to be thurst into tough competition.
This could have made it easier for Zimbabwe cricket boss to convince BCCI, which is looking at a six-team event instead of the usual five-zone competition.
Last year, the Board had invitedBangladesh but the subcontinental neighbour fared poorly as the Central Zone went on to claim the trophy.
Bangla captain Mohd Ashraful had said that the experience had helped the side and they would want to come back for a second time. But the Board decided otherwise.
