Nasibullah Shaikh, brother of prime witness in Best Bakery case Zaheera Shaikh, today retracted his police statement by telling the trial court here that he did not remember the faces of those persons who had set fire to the bakery in post-Godhra communal riots two years back.

Nasibullah is the fifth eye-witness to depose before the court. Other witnesses, including Zaheera’s sister-in-law Yasmin Shaikh, have identified some accused.

In his earlier police statement, Nasibullah had named some accused and specified their role in attacking the bakery. During examination in chief, the witness said there was smoke all around the bakery on March 1, 2002, and hence he could not see the faces of persons who had gathered there.
