Sentence ‘shocking’, says Russian press

MOSCOW: Most Russian newspapers reacted with shock at the nine-year prison term handed down to Yukos oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky. “Too much,” said the business daily Vedomosti. “The verdict scares the business world.” The respected Izvestia daily said nine years was the kind of sentence usually given to “murderers and rapists.” — Agencies
