COIMBATORE, SEPT 1: Three youths sustained bleeding injuries when they attempted to bite their tongues off, in an apparent bid to avoid being questioned by the police at Eechanari on the city outskirts last night, police said.

According to police, Akbar Ali, Samesa and Noor Mohammed were found moving under suspicious circumstances by a police patrol party. On being questioned, the three tried to cut their tongue by pressing it between their teeth and pushing the chin upwards.

Viewing it as an act to avoid interrogation, the youths were taken into custody, police said.
