ST JOHN’S, MAY 25: Yousuf Youhana’s second century of the series kept Pakistan’s hopes alive of securing the series here on Thursday on the first day of the third and final Test against the West Indies. Yousuf, who scored a century in the rain-affected first Test, was unbeaten on 102 at close, paceman Waqar Younis batting on four, with the visitors having finished on 267 for eight.

Yet again Pakistan’s top order had failed leaving them on 33-3 and it was left to Youhana and vice-captain Inzamam-ul-Haq to inject some respectability to the total. The duo added 97 for the fourth wicket before Inzamam fell to Courtney Walsh in the afternoon session for 55 Walsh ending the day with 3-81.

Inzamam and Yousuf had shared 97 for the fourth wicket in close to two-and-a-half hours to help Pakistan recover. After carrying Pakistan to lunch at 60 for three, the two helped consolidate their side’s position. Inzamam reached his half-century when he pulled Curtly Ambrose over mid-wicket for the only six in his innings that lasted 166 minutes, 89 balls and contained eight fours.
