VADODARA, NOV 28: The state unit of the Youth Congress-I on Sunday declared that it would ``involve itself actively'' in the kar seva proposed by the Narmada Jan Andolan (NJA) at the dam site on December 4. It has also announced a rally at Gandhi Nagar Gruh here on December 1 to gather support for the kar seva.Former MP and Youth Congress leader Satyajit Gaekwad said he expected 30,000 workers from all over the district to participate in the kar seva. Gaekwad and other Congress leaders agreed that they would not hesitate to exploit the kar seva to the hilt in order to ``politically devastate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).''They said they would face any consequence of trying to make a success of the kar seva programme. So far the Congress and its other wings have supported the NJA only from behind the scenes. Sunday's commitment by the Youth Congress-I is the first attempt to directly reap political dividend from the proposed kar seva, to which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government is opposed. The state government has said that going ahead with the kar seva could jeopardise the case in the Supreme Court, however, Congress and its other wings, have maintained that the government does not want opposition parties to gather advantage over the Narmada issue. Gujarat Youth Congress chief Himmatsinh Patel told Express Newsline that Youth Congress workers from all over the state will join the kar seva. ``We are not just supporting it, we will take active part it,'' Patel said. Lamenting the reported statements of Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and Narmada Development Minister Jaynarayan Vyas over the kar seva, Patel said, ``Narmada is not an issue of any particular party. It is an issue of Gujarat and its people. Let all people join to expedite the solution to the Narmada issue.''Gujarat Seva Dal president Maulin Vaishnav said that the Congress party would support anybody working in favour of the Narmada dam issue. He wanted people to rise above their narrow political interests and take part in the kar seva to ensure that the Narmada waters flew into Gujarat's field at the earliest.
