MUMBAI, JUNE 16: For the first time in the history of the Hindi film industry, a reputed production house has claimed a compensation of approximately Rs 35 lakh from its insurers, for delay in the completion of its film.
"Yash Raj Films India Ltd has claimed compensation for delay in the shooting of their forthcoming film Mohabattein caused by an injury to the heroine and subsequent business interruption loss," United India Insurance Company Ltd assistant general manager Vijay Pawar said on Friday.
Yash Raj Films had insured the Aishwarya Rai starrer Mohabattein for Rs 15 crore in September 1999, he added.
Yash Raj Ltd chief accounts officer Kanubhai Sadrani said Mohabattein, which is scheduled for a Diwali release, had been delayed for more than a month due to Aishwarya’s injury.
The production house had retained the set for few days but ultimately it was brought down to facilitate other production houses thus leading to massive losses, he claimed.
"The incident occurred in February. The compensation which is around Rs 35 lakh is a claim for the reconstruction of the set," Sadrani said. The insurance company has already appointed a chartered accounting firm to assess the losses as claimed by the party on whose report the action would be taken, Pawar said.
"Yash Raj Films will now have to substantiate the claim by proper documents and then the compensation will be given," Pawar said.
