PARIS: Carlos “The Jackal” is seeking $ 93,000 dollars in damages from an author and publisher of a book for prejudicing his defense at his trial in France on terrorism charges, his lawyer said. The presumption of innocence of Ilich Ramirez-Sanchez, alias Carlos, was violated by the book, Carlos; The Secret Networks of International Terrorism, by Bernard Violet, his lawyer Frederic Pariente said on Wednesday. The book published by Seuil in October 1996, interfered with the legal system and undermined his defense before he stands trial here on December 11 on charges of killing three policemen in Paris in 1975, the lawyer said. The lawyer for the author and publisher argued that Carlos could not expect the presumption of innocence after having “admitted and claimed” several times responsibility for terrorist acts he is accused of committing.
