NEW DELHI, NOV 6: A global body on dams would hold its `open hearing’ on such projects in the South Asian region, in Sri Lanka next month.
Major dam projects, including the Sardar Sarovar in the Narmada Valley, would be discussed at the hearing by the World Commission on Dams, from December 9 to 13, Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar told reporters here today. Alternatives to large dams and the criteria for such dams would be discussed by government and NGO representatives from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
