The Monsoon Session of Parliament is on, Ayodhya is brewing and several notices for another debate on the education policy have piled up on Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi’s table. But HRD and Science-&-Tech Minister Murli Manohar Joshi is off to the US tomorrow to promote harmony among religions.

After successfully co-hosting a global meet to initiate a ‘Dialogue Among Civilization’’, Joshi is heading towards Edison, New Jersey, for a week to inaugurate the Global Dharma Conference to be held on July 25-27.

In company of talking heads like Kiran Bedi and Deepak Chopra, Joshi will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of Maha Samadhi of Swami Vivekanada ‘‘who re-introduced the concept of dharma to the modern world’’.

Just as in the ‘Dialogue Among Civilizations’, this ‘‘apolitical dharma conference’’ has invited all, ‘‘regardless of race, religion and nationality’’.

Global Hindu organisations — Hindu Students’ Council, Network of Hindu Minds, North America, Hindu Students’ Forum, Netherlands, World Organisation of Students and Youth, India, Swami Narayanan Satsang, Young Jains from America — of all hues are behind the dharma conference.

While Joshi will inaugurate the conference, Dalai Lama, Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will be video-conferencing with the delegates.
