At a time when Bollywood is importing its ‘item’ girls, deportation orders have been handed over to Norwegian-born Nigar Khan, who shot to fame with the remix video Chadti Jawani, for alleged visa violations.Officials said Khan had been ‘‘repeatedly violating’’ the conditions attached to her visa which don’t allow her to undertake ‘‘any commercial work’’. She was finally detained at the immigration office at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport on Monday afternoon. According to sources, Khan, who is of Iranian descent, had been visiting India on a tourist visa since 2000. As per the rules, this does not permit her to work or earn. Despite this, she has performed in several music videos and Hindi films. These sources added that Khan was warned at least thrice earlier, before being summoned to the Foreign Regional Registration Office at Mumbai today. With officials complaining of complete non-cooperation on her part, Khan was finally asked to leave the country. ‘‘We served her with a ‘Leave India’ notice about a month back, but she ignored it,’’ revealed Police Commissioner A N Roy. ‘‘She had no work permit, only a visitors’ visa. But she continued to work nevertheless.’’ Khan, who has been linked with actor Saahil Khan, was one of the three scantily-clad angels in the Harry Anand rehash, Chadti Jawani. Later, she made her Bollywood debut in Raj Kaushal’s Shaadi Ka Ladoo. This is not the first time that she’s at the centre of a controversy. Last year, some nude photos of hers surfaced on the internet. There were allegations that Khan did that photo shoot when she was a minor. Kaushal, who directed Khan in her first film, said it never occurred to him to check her visa. ‘‘By the time we signed her on, she had already done a couple of music videos for T Series. She was already a well-known face and we had no reason to think that she didn’t have her papers. Moreover, most of the foreign nationals in the industry come through bona fide model coordinators, so it was never an issue,’’ he said. Nitin Manmohan, producer of Rudraksh in which Khan had done an item number Ishq Khudai, added: ‘‘We thought she must be having all her papers and never asked her.’’ Among her films which are yet to be completed are Hello.Kaun Hai and Double Cross: Ek Dhoka.
