NEW DELHI, Aug 8: The Government today said that the 81st Constitution Amendment Bill to provide for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies is being brought before Parliament next week.

Making the announcement in the Rajya Sabha, Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy said that the govt was committed to this and other Bills like the ones on electoral reforms, Lok Pal and agricultural workers.

The question was only of finding time for their introduction and passing, he said. The govt would present its views before the Business Advisory Committee, he added. Deputy Chairperson Najma Heptulla asked members to be present and vote for the Bill on reservation for women when it came up before the House.

Responding to another issue raised by CPI veteran Gurudas Dasgupta who wanted to know the fate of his call attention notice on non-payment of dues worth Rs 1,000 crore to employees of State-owned units, she said that she had written to the Prime Minister after three ministries had refused to answer the notice.
