A marriage party turned into a wake after a 26-year-old woman was shot dead when a guest fired his gun in the air at Dau Majra village under Sadar police station on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Pardip Kaur, a resident of Dadherri village near Khanna.

The man’s son, Gabbenpreet Singh, was also shot in the arm and was rushed to CMC Hospital in Ludhiana. The accused Gurdip Singh, a resident of Rano village near Payal, is absconding after the incident.

A case has been registered against Gurdip Singh on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Gurdip Singh, a resident of Alluna Tola village.

According to the police, Pardip Kaur had come to attend the marriage of a cousin of her husband Nirbhai Singh. The accused is the brother-in-law of Nirbhai Singh.

Station House Officer, Sadar police station, Dharam Pal said: “At the Ladies Sangeet ceremony, Gurdip Singh started dancing and fired a few shots in the air which hit both the victims.”
