Chandigarh, July 13: A woman committed suicide, another woman attempted to commit suicide and a teenaged girl succumbed to her burn injuries in three separate incidents here during the past 24 hours.

The body of a woman, apparently in her early 20s, was recovered from the Sukhna Lake here this afternoon. Police said the woman committed suicide by jumping from the tower in the lake. Her slippers were found from the tower.

The woman, who apparently was a labourer, was wearing red floral sari, bangles and sindoor which indicated that she was married. Her body bore no visible injury marks. On her right wrist were tattooed two symbols, added the police sources. Since there was no report about any missing woman lodged in any of the local police stations, the police have instructed the beat staff to check about her. In a separate case, a woman was pulled out from the waters of the lake in unconscious condition. She has been restored to her parents in Kajheri village here. The girl, aged around 25, is unmarried. The police suspect it to be a case of attempted suicide. However, no case has been registered so far.

In yet another case, Reena, a 15-year-old girl from Colony number 5 here, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital here. She was admitted to the hospital nearly a week ago. She had sustained burns at her house as a result of stove-bust.
