Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is likely to visit India from August 3 to 5. Karzai, initially scheduled to come here on July 30, deferred his visit after the attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul earlier this month, in which four Indians, including a diplomat and a senior Army officer, were killed.

Karzai is expected to meet President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee during the visit.

Terrorism and the need to deal with it together will dominate the talks between the two countries during the visit. Aid assistance to Afghanistan will be another key issue on the agenda of both the sides.

New Delhi’s relationship with Kabul has been on the rise in the past few years, as India has been involved in the reconstruction of Aghanistan’s infrastructure in a big way.

India is not only helping Afghanistan by building basic infrastructure like roads, schools and hospitals, but also a number of private firms are assisting the Afghanistan Government and the people in rebuilding their social and cultural environment through a number of initiatives such as setting up a new private television channel in Kabul.
