March 12: Announcing its provisional squad of 19 yesterday, the West Indies included ten players over the age of 30 and only one new to international cricket — Hendy Bryan, the Barbados fast-medium bowler and hard-hitting low-order batsman.

West Indies Cricket Board secretary Andrew Sealy did not nominate a captain among the 19. Brian Lara is currently leading the west indies in its series against Australia, but was only appointed for the first two of the four Tests, after which the WICB said his position would be reviewed.

Batsmen Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, all-rounders Keith Arthurton, Carl Hooper, Phil Simmons and Jimmy Adams, wicket-keeper Junior Murray and fast bowlers Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh all have World Cup experience.
