MUMBAI, NOV 6: Mohammed Azharuddin’s current employer, the State Bank of India (SBI), has not received any official complaint against the former Indian cricket captain who has been accused of match fixing by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to the CBI, it can take action against the Indian captain and Ajay Sharma under the Prevention of Corruption Act as both are public sector employees.

“We have not received any complain from anybody… we have not been given a copy of the CBI report. As and when we receive any complain, we will put the accused under suspension till investigations are over,” said a top SBI official. Azharuddin is Chief Manager and Public Relations Officer with India’s largest commercial bank. The post is a ceremonious one: Azharuddin does not have to attend office.

“We cannot take action based on a report which has not come to us. When the government sends it to us for action, we will take appropriate action against him,” officials say claiming anonymity.

“We have read only press reports… it will take some days for the report to reach us,” officials add.

SBI insiders say Azharuddin’s entire file has been kept ready by the bank to take `immediate’ action as and when they receive an official complaint. As SBI falls under the finance ministry, the CBI will have to send the report to the Finance Minister who will then send it to SBI for `proper action’.
