What’s the harm in what I said about Rahul: Arjun

Senior Congress leader Arjun Singh, in the eye of a storm over his remarks projecting Rahul Gandhi as prime ministerial candidate, on Tuesday met party president Sonia Gandhi and rejected suggestions that his statement was aimed at undermining Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

After the meeting, he maintained that his statement on Rahul Gandhi was not discussed with Sonia Gandhi.

“What is the harm in what I said about Rahul Gandhi. I really don’t take back my words. I have said nothing against the Prime Minister. I am a member of his Cabinet. I follow conventions and I will continue to follow conventions as a member of the Cabinet,” he said whether Gandhi and the party was upset over his remarks.

“I don’t know who is upset,” he shot back.

Asked about the AICC statement that his remarks on Rahul created an ‘atmosphere of sycophancy’, he said, “I don’t read any meaning in this.”
