NEW DELHI, December 25: Western Railway (Mumbai) routed E M E 6-2 while Border Security Force (BSF) defeated Corps of Signal 4-0 in the quarter-final league matches of the 19th Servo Sanjay Gandhi hockey tournament at National Stadium here today.
In other league matches of the day I.T.B.P defeated Food Corporation of India (FCI) 3-1 while Punjab and Sind Bank Academy downed P.S.E.B 1-0.
In a one-sided match, Western Railway led 2-1 at half time. For the winners Mukhtiar (2), Shanta Kumar, Allan Barla, Deepak Gupta and Chander Pal scored.Western dominated the proceedings and the margin of victory belied the manner in which their forwards time and again pierced through the EME defence throughout the game. They, in fact, should have scored a couple of more goals had their forwards been more accurate.
A. Singh and Kalpesh scored a goal each for the losers.
B.S.F led 1-0 at the interval against Signal. Peter Tirkey, Shinu Herenj, Iqbaljit and Marrinus Lakra found the target for the winners. Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) downed F.C.I 3-1 after leading 2-1 at half time.
The local outfit failed to put up a brave challenge against a determined ITBP. FCI had their chances but they failed to utilise them. Marshal, Sunil and Amrik Singh were the scorers for the ITBP team while Prabhakar reduced the margin for the losers.
Prabhdeep Singh scored the only goal for PSB Academy which gave them a 1-0 win over PSEB.
On Saturday, FCI will take on ASC at 11.30 am; Western Railway meet ITBP at 1 pm and BSF will clash with Punjab and Sind Bank Academy at 3 pm.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday and the final slated for Monday.
