HYDERABAD (PAK), NOV 24: The first day of the three-day match between West Indies and Habib Bank was called off when the visitors failed to arrive for the game today after complaining about their hotel.

The match will now be played over two days, with the visitors travelling daily from their Karachi hotel. The Bank side remained at the ground with umpires Mian Aslam and Afzal Ahmad until 10:30 am before returning to their hotels.

The West Indies arrived last morning by road but returned to Karachi, 200 km away, complaining the hotel allocated to them was sub-standard. The visitors, who were booked into the civil aviation rest house, complained of lack of space and poor food.

West Indies manager Clive Lloyd maintained that according to an itinerary, they were booked at the Indus Hotel, adjacent to Niaz Stadium.

But local cricket officials said the change in plans was six weeks before the start of the tour because the Indus Hotel failed to guarantee sufficient space, saying the match clashed with a convention.

The President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association Yar Mohammad Solangi said: “The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was informed of the plan and the home board had conveyed the same to their West Indies counterparts.”
